Auto-Rain Self-Drain Sprinkler Start-Up and Shut-Down Instructions

 

RPZ – OUTDOOR

***These instructions are for Auto-Rain systems installed 2017 or Later***

Shut-Down: FALL (October recommended)

  1. Close main water valve (should have irrigation tag hanging from it inside)
  2. Start a MANUAL irrigation cycle
  3. Remove plastic RPZ insert with Phillips screw driver, place in a bag with (2) O rings (1 on each end)
    *Recommended to hang bag on water shut off valve for safe keeping
  4. Turn ball valves on RPZ (2) to “half” ON/OFF position
    (approx. 45-degree angle to pipe -see below image)
    ***MUST BE DONE TO PREVENT CRACKING***
  5. Open the boiler drain. Leave boiler drain open with bucket underneath while system is off. Check to make sure boiler drain stops dripping within a few hours. IF boiler drain continues to drip, call Auto-Rain (847-949-7246) – Do NOT close boiler drain!
  6. Run (2) MANUAL sprinkler cycles
  7. Suspend controller operation until spring of the following year (Do NOT un-plug controller)

Start-Up: SPRING (May/June recommended)

  1. Close the boiler drain (the drain with the bucket under it)
  2. Install RPZ insert outside with Phillips screw driver (Make sure both (2) O rings are in place on the ends of the insert before installing. Alternate tightening screws. Make sure you DO NOT over tighten!
  3. Turn ball valve (2) from 45-degree angle to Full Open (handles should be in-line with pipe)
  4. Open main water valve (should have irrigation tag hanging from it)
  5. Turn controller on, test and observe zone by zone. If you notice leaks or broken heads, please call us to schedule a service appointment.
  6. Call to schedule RPZ Certification if required by law for your village (Check your Village website).

RPZ – INDOOR

  1. Turn off main water supply valve and (2) ball valves on RPZ unit
  2. Open boiler drains outside and inside (if any)
  3. “Back drain” copper pipe from outside to inside. This can be done by opening last test cock on RPZ (if using RPZ test cock, the outflow ball valve will need to be opened until back drain is complete). Then close test cock and ball valve.
  4. Run (2) manual sprinkler cycles
  5. Suspend controller operation until spring of the following year (Do NOT un-plug controller)

Start-Up: SPRING (May/June recommended)

  1. Close any/all open boiler drains inside and outside
  2. Open main water valve in basement, then open RPZ ball valves
  3. Test and observe all Zones. If you notice leaks or broken heads, please call us to schedule a service appointment
  4. Call to schedule RPZ Certification if required by law for your village (check your Village website)
